MPCA opens window for farmers to comment on livestock NPDES permits

While state agencies have put on hold rulemaking for water permitting fees and “Clean Cars,” other rulemaking efforts in Minnesota remain in effect.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is holding its draft permitting period for NPDES permits for feedlots. The current general NPDES permit for feedlots expires Jan. 31, 2021. Under the proposed permit, the state would likely affect smaller producers, with estimates indicating the state could lose more than a million acres worth of manure application each year.

MPAC’s draft permit is now open for public review and comment through July 23, 2020 4:30 p.m. Click here for more information and to comment.
