With parts of Minnesota already in full swing when it comes to harvest, the University of Minnesota (UMN) is encouraging farmers to take some time and send soybean samples from fields as they are harvested.

“Sending these samples in will help allow the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council (MSR&PC), UMN, as well as the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) to measure and showcase the full value of the oil, protein and amino acids within your soybean bushels,” says Minnesota Soybean Director of Market Development Kim Nill. “This information is valuable when marketing our beans abroad.”

More samples are still especially needed from the orange, red and grey counties listed in figure 1.

UMN will measure the beans and send back the confidential results along with a groundbreaking new look at why U.S. soybeans pay. These results will aid in encouraging overseas soy buyers to buy northern U.S., soybeans, due to higher Essential Amino Acid (EAA) content and its importance compared to just looking at the simple crude protein level.
