Q&A with MN Soybean’s Public Relations Intern

To start. Introduce yourself.

Hello everyone! I’m Ashley Johnson and I grew up on a farm outside of Sleepy Eye, Minn. I recently graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn., with a Bachelor’s in Agricultural Communications and minors in Marketing and Agribusiness.

Have you been involved with any organizations, agriculture or non-agriculture related?
I have been involved in 4-H and FFA where I held numerous officer positions, attended camps, and exhibited at the fair. I was involved at SMSU with the agriculture club and as an orientation leader.

What made you want to pursue working in agriculture?
I wanted to pursue agriculture because it has been something I have consistently been surrounded by throughout my life and I want to be an advocate for farmers.

Why do you think it’s so important to have young women working in the agriculture industry?
It is so important to have young women in the agriculture industry to represent the new generation coming into the industry. Women can also give a new and different perspective on agriculture.

What are you hoping to get out of your summer internship with us?
In this internship, I hope to gain new skills that will benefit me in the future along with learning more about the soybean industry.

What are you most excited about?
I am most excited about new challenges and opportunities that I will be facing over the course of my internship.

Any hobbies?
I enjoy playing outside with my dog Penny (golden retriever), going for a bike ride, and crafting.

If you were to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Creative. Outgoing. Hard working.

If you were to get on a plane tomorrow, where would you go and why?
I would want to go to Germany, because there are so many different things to see and do, along with the chance to learn more about the culture.

What is one fun fact about you?
One fact about me is that I enjoy traveling and trying new things!
