Required dicamba training sessions continue

March 1, 2018 / by Minnesota Soybean Categories: Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council, Soybean News

Last December, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA), after a great deal of discussion and investigation, announced acceptance of the new EPA registrations with two additional restrictions to reduce vapor drift (volatility movement). The restrictions were a cutoff date of June 20, to reduce damage to adjoining soybean field by limiting exposure to the vegetative growth stage, and a cutoff temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit, to reduce evaporation potential (risk) during application.

In order to spray dicamba herbicide on dicamba-tolerant soybeans in 2018, one must attend a dicamba training session in order to comply with the state’s updated pesticide control law. The two-hour training sessions are offered free of charge and satisfies the federal label training requirements for all three registrants (BASF, Dow DuPont and Monsanto).

Any dicamba training taken this past winter or one in the near future, MDA will honor the training based on material prepared by any of the three registrants. If the same training was provided in a neighboring state, MDA will recognize the training so long as the three registrants notified MDA of the training and maintained a database of attendees and made the database available to MDA.
