Frank serves on the Renville County Board and credits MSGA Director Doug Toreen for getting her involved.

“Doug asked me to help with our plot day, and before I knew it, I was sitting in the fair booth connecting at a local level with our area farmers,” Frank says.

Dayton administration kicks MN farmers while they are down

A week of tough news got even worse for Minnesota farmers. That’s because Gov. Mark Dayton’s administration is proposing an amendment to the Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) administrative penalty order (APO) for the implementation of buffers under Minnesota’s buffer law that would ding farmers tens of thousands of dollars in fines due to noncompliance.

When your farm resides in the far southwest corner of Minnesota, having a voice in St. Paul when you can’t always be there is one of the main reasons Lyle Rollag finds his Minnesota Soybean Growers Association membership valuable.

“Having someone in St. Paul on my behalf is important,” Rollag says. “I’m appreciative of all they are doing for me and my farm, and also what they are preventing from happening.”

MSGA director receives Minnesota Ag Water Quality Certificate

Earlier this month, a couple of representatives of the Minnesota Ag Water Quality Certification Program traveled to the Skaug farm outside of Beltrami to present Mike and his son, Ryan, with a couple of signs signifying the farm’s compliance with the still relatively new statewide program passed by the Minnesota Legislature almost four years ago.
