The Freeborn County Corn & Soybean Growers helped sponsor a new greenhouse for the agriculture program at the Glenville-Emmons High School, providing students with additional opportunities for hands-on learning. 

The greenhouse will give students a place to grow plants and gain firsthand experience with plant science, crop production and other areas of agriculture. Students will be able to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it in a practical setting. 

“Supporting this greenhouse is one of the best returns we can get – young people learning where their food comes from, and maybe deciding this is the career they want,” said Cole Pestorious, chair of the Freeborn County Corn & Soybean Growers. “That’s a long-term investment in agriculture.” 

The project is another example of local farmers supporting agricultural education and creating opportunities for students to learn more about the industry that plays an important role in the community. By helping fund resources like the new greenhouse through soy checkoff fundse, the Freeborn County Corn & Soybean Growers are investing in the next generation and encouraging students to explore the many opportunities available in agriculture.  

About the Freeborn County Soybean & Corn Growers Association: 

The Freeborn County Soybean & Corn Growers Association is affiliated with the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council, which oversees the investment of soybean checkoff dollars on behalf of approximately 26,000 farmers in Minnesota. The Council is governed by the rules of a federally mandated checkoff program that requires all soybean producers to pay a fee on the soybeans they sell. This money is used to promote, educate and develop market opportunities for soybeans.
