Dicamba training for 2022 now available

May 5, 2022 / Categories: Uncategorized

It’s that time of year again and many farmers across the state are patiently waiting to begin the 2022 planting season.

For those planning to spray dicamba this growing season, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture has worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the registrants of the three dicamba products, XtendiMax®, Engenia®, and Tavium®, to include the following restrictions on the product labels:

  • Cutoff date: No application is permitted south of interstate 94 after June 12. There is no application north of interstate 94 after June 30.
    • In addition to the cutoff date, Xtendimax and Tavium have crop growth stage cutoffs.
  • Cutoff temperature for the entire state: Do not apply if the air temperature of the field is over 85 degrees Fahrenheit or National Weather Service’s forecasted high temperature for the nearest available location for the day exceeds the 85 degrees Fahrenheit at the time of application.

The restrictions are also promoted through the mandatory dicamba specific training, required for anyone applying one of the approved products, on the manufacturer’s website. Compliance with these Minnesota-specific restrictions and other restrictions listed on the product label is mandatory.

Information on mandatory dicamba training can be found at the manufacturer (BASF, Bayer, Syngenta) website.

Additional information on dicamba, Minnesota specific restrictions, along with other forms and resources can be found on the MDA website.
