In 2020, three counties recorded total soybean production over 10.0 million bushels, led by Redwood County, with 11.3 million bushels according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Faribault (11.3 million) and Polk (11.0 million) also surpassed the 10.0 million bushel threshold.
Statewide, five counties averaged at least 60.0 bushels per acre, with Faribault County recording the highest yield in Minnesota, at 63.4 bushels per acre. Waseca (63.1), Nicollet (61.7), Brown (60.8), and Watonwan (60.5) rounded out the top five highest yielding counties. Roseau County recorded the lowest average yield at 27.4 bushels per
acre.
Yields are derived from production divided by area harvested. Only published estimates were considered in rankings of counties. In total, Minnesota soybean farmers produced 359 million bushels of soybeans in 2020, up from 297 million in 2019.
