MSGA

Minnesota Soybean Growers Association

Since 1962, the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA) has been a strong, proactive voice for Minnesota soybean producers in St. Paul and Washington, D.C., ensuring that the policy priorities of our state’s soy farmers reach elected officials.

Guided by a board of over 40 farmer-leaders who volunteer countless hours toward advocating for the soybean industry, MSGA is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that relies on membership and fundraising dollars to engage with elected officials. Reminder: No checkoff dollars can be used for advocacy!

Legislation Success

While Minnesota’s nearly 26,000 soybean farmers concentrate on managing their operations, MSGA is protecting their interests by working with both parties and regulatory leaders to make sure producers have a seat at the policy table. Examples of MSGA’s recent legislative wins in St. Paul include:

Being a leading voice for legislation that raised the agricultural homestead tax credit floor to $3.5 million.

Protecting Minnesota’s biodiesel industry, which contributes nearly $1.7 billion toward our state’s economy.

Introducing a bill that increases funding for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s international trade staff to grow markets for Minnesota agricultural products.

Protecting crop inputs.

Supporting the establishment of Minnesota’s first grain indemnity fund.

Continuing to promote biodiesel as a timely economic and environmental solution.

Minnesota also supports six directors on the American Soybean Association, which represents the nation’s more than 500,000 farmers at the nation’s capital. National directors help build relationships with Minnesota’s congressional delegation and federal agencies to advocate for issues including the Farm Bill, renewable fuels, market development and crop protection.
