Ohio State article sparks response from BASF
There’s rarely a dull moment in the soybean world, and this spring figures to be no different.
A recent article from Ohio State Extension focused on the labeling of glyphosate products for use on glyphosate-tolerant soybeans. According to the article, the glyphosate resistance in Liberty Link GT27 (LLGT27) soybeans is a result of a different genetic event than Roundup Ready or Roundup Ready 2 soybeans. Only those glyphosate products labeled for use in glyphosate resistant or glyphosate tolerant soybeans would be legal for over-the-top (post-emergent) use of LLGT27 soybeans. This also applies to Enlist E3 soybeans.
Minnesota Soybean has reached out to several industry representatives, requesting a list of approved glyphosate products for use with LLGT27 soybeans.
BASF responded with a list of glyphosate products commercially available for farmers to use over the top of LLGT27 and GT27 soybeans.
“One seed technology will not solve all the challenges growers face throughout the growing season,” BASF said in a statement. “Growers need clear guidance, not confusion regarding the critical tools they need to fight weeds. Let’s work together to find a solution that meets the needs of growers.”
A representative for Corteva said the Enlist Duo Herbicide is a great option for Enlist E3 soybeans.
Growers still have the option to use Liberty for post-emergent weed control with LLGT27 soybeans as part of their weed management plan.
Minnesota Soybean encourages farmers to always follow the label and speak with their agronomists and input suppliers now to figure out the best options for weed control on their farm operation that works for the seed they purchased.
