Biodiesel Open goes long for MSGA

A wet morning turned into a muggy afternoon out on the Crow River Golf Club in Hutchinson for the 2025 Biodiesel Open, but that didn’t stop golfers from showing up for the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA).
This group supports soy, rain or shine.
“The course was a little wet, obviously, with all the rain we’ve been getting,” said Ryan Mackenthun, MSGA Vice President, who farms near the course. “But it was a good time on the golf course.”
Mackenthun was on one of the 12 teams that showed up to support MSGA, and his team from Mosaic Crop Nutrition brought home the top prize. The from Case IH placed second. MSGA Director Bob Lindemann, who also farms in McLeod County, also attended and took home the prize for longest putt (no rigging, we swear!).
The Biodiesel Open, as the name suggests, was created to support the use of biodiesel in the state of Minnesota. Biodiesel increases the value of soybeans for farmers by over $1, boosts demand by 13% and supports the local economy. It currently supports nearly 5,400 jobs in Minnesota and contributes $1.7 billion toward Minnesota’s economy.
Minnesota is already a leader in the biodiesel market, being the first state to pass a biodiesel mandate in 2005. Now, the state requires B20 in the summer months and cities across the state are even trying to implement B100 for their fleet vehicles.
Clean Fuels Alliance America, a sponsor of the event, released a proposal earlier this year to reach 5.61 billion gallons of renewable fuel in 2026, which would be an increase of more than two billion gallons.
“As an industry, we see that as a huge investment into the biofuels industry,” said Mackenthun. “That’s an investment in farms, that’s an investment in our industry, and hopefully that’ll help support farms which will help support the ag businesses that farmers do business with.”
All proceeds from the event help fund MSGA’s advocacy efforts in St. Paul and Washington, D.C., to educate legislators on the importance of homegrown biofuels. MSGA would like to thank all its Biodiesel Open sponsors that supported this outing. We’ll see you on the green next year!
