Gopher Fans, UMN Students and Commodity Groups Join to Celebrate Ag

Minnesota Soybean participated in Gopher Football’s annual Celebrate Ag and Food Day at the University of Minnesota on Saturday, Sept. 10.

This year’s event had something for everyone. Fans, farmers and food lovers were able to take in pre-game festivities, which included tailgating, food samples, giveaways and a town-hall discussion with University leaders. Gopher fans were able to interact and talk with some of the men and women behind the foods and products they consume.

“Celebrate Ag and Food Day is an important event for Minnesota Soybean,” Patrick O’Leary, vice-chairman for the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council, said. “We get to interact with fans and talk about soybean farming, but also have conversations with university leaders about the projects and programs they are working on concerning agriculture.”

Beyond participating in pre-game conversations and festivities, Minnesota Soybean had radio spots, soybean trivia and halftime video appearances throughout the game.

Along with O’Leary, Paul Freeman represented Minnesota Soybean and participated in the town hall listening session, which included a panel discussion with the UMN President, Eric Kaler; Dean of Extension, Bev Durgan; Dean of College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Sciences, Brian Buhr; and Dean of Veterinary Medicine, Trevor Ames.

Celebrate Ag and Food Day is a partnership between Gopher Football and the University of Minnesota’s College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Sciences. Together they host Minnesota commodity groups and food businesses to connect Golden Gopher fans with the vast agriculture and food industry in Minnesota.
