Annual event allows participants to explore current research and apply to daily life

Spend a Saturday morning in the classroom with faculty and experts from the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS), learn about the latest research and go home feeling smarter.

The 15th annual Classes Without Quizzes will be held April 2 and will feature the latest research from CFANS scientsists, including keynote speaker Jay Bell, a professor in the Department of Soil, Water and Climate who will be speaking on the topic of “The 3 Ms of Soils: Minnesota, the Moon and Mars.”

Breakout sessions will include a wide variety of topics including grocers in rural Minnesota, cows and technology, recreation on the North Shore, midwestern hops and more. All participants will attend a keynote session, and then select two breakout sessions of his/her choice.

There will also be a kid’s edition that will provide youth K-6 the opportunity to explore topics like the lives of bees, backyard bugs and raptors. The program will be hands-on, with fun, educational and recreational activities led by youth educators from University Youth and Community Programs. Participants will be divided into age-appropriate groups for their activities.

This annual half-day learning event was created in 2002 to showcase the ways that research by CFANS faculty affects the daily lives of Minnesotans. This is a fun, informal outreach event that appeals to many audiences: alumni, general public, current and prospective college students, families, youth K-6 or anyone curious about the latest research coming out of CFANS.
