Biodiesel plays a pivotal role in supporting our state’s economy, as well as cutting emissions, allowing Minnesotans to breathe clean and healthy air. Supporting biodiesel is as easy and fun as a day at the golf course, literally!
The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA) announces the return of its Biodiesel Open Monday, Aug. 19 at the Crow River Golf Club in Hutchinson.
“This is a very fun event that brings together farmers and industry folks for opportunities to network and learn about what’s going on in the soybean industry and more importantly learn about the things that MSGA is fighting for,” said MSGA President Darin Johnson, who was elected in June.
MSGA is fighting for farmers by joining a lawsuit challenging the state of Minnesota’s adoption of California’s zero-emission vehicle mandate, along with ensuring biofuels are included in the growing sustainable aviation fuel market. The biodiesel industry is important to Minnesota soybean farmers and the state’s economy overall by contributing approximately a dollar for every soybean bushel sold and contributing nearly $1.7 billion toward the state’s economy and supporting more than 5,000 jobs. On top of that, biodiesel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by more than 50 percent.
Proceeds from the Biodiesel Open support MSGA’s advocacy efforts in St. Paul and Washington, D.C.
“From a carbon footprint standpoint, biodiesel is already playing a major role in reducing our carbon intensity score, but we need to make everybody else sees it that way as well,” said Johnson, who farms in Wells. “Minnesota has always been a leader in the biodiesel industry, and it’s MSGA’s job, with your support, to keep it that way.”
